Why non-terrestrial networks need their own reference
Coverage no longer stops at the edge of the terrestrial grid. 3GPP Release 17/18 folded satellite radio access into the same standard as terrestrial 5G, and direct-to-device links now reach unmodified handsets and IoT sensors wherever the sky is visible. NTN, D2D, inter-satellite links and satellite backhaul are becoming procurement categories in their own right — and the operators, integrators and satcom startups building in this space need a technical home base as precise as the standards they implement.
